3 hours

Easy

Take a walk outdoors through the most characteristic and important places for the history of Venice.

This is an essential tour for an understanding of this enchanting city! The tour starts in PIAZZA SAN MARCO, where our local guide will reveal all the secrets of the origins and history of its main monuments: the San Marco Basilica, the Palazzo Ducale, the Bell Tower and the Procuratie.

We will then proceed to Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo, the "Pantheon" of Venice, the Great School of Charity, and other places of interest such as Marco Polo’s House. We will finally return to San Marco through the Mercerie, the vital connection between the Rialto and San Marco and the main street for city shopping.

The visit then continues inside the PALAZZO DUCALE, the historical seat of the Venetian political power. In its splendid rooms, plastered with hundreds of masterpieces of paintings, you can see where the Duke and his Council controlled the fate of a thousand-year old republic. With our local guide you will walk the halls of power, plunging you back into the European Middle Ages and the following centuries.

You’ll be knocked out by the rich details of the gold staircase, of the realism of the scenes depicted by many artists who have decorated this building. Then you can relive the anguish of the prisoners crossing the famous BRIDGE OF SIGHS, and entering the Venetian prisons, famous for housing such illustrious prisoners as Giacomo Casanova. An unforgettable tour - not to be missed!
